Today is the Feast of San Lorenzo (St Lawrence), the last of the seven deacons. He suffered a martyr’s death. San Lorenzo is co-patron saint of the city. The night of the shooting stars is also celebrated on this day in Italy. Every year on this evening millions of Italians turn their faces to the sky to watch the shooting stars light up the heavens and to make wishes and revel against the backdrop of the annual Perseid meteor shower. Indeed the best night to observe the shooting stars is now two days later, but Italians don’t let modern science detract them from the romance!

Movimento Turismo del Vino and Città del Vino, the association of wine producers, come together to breathe life into an event that is developed with a series of stops throughout Italy, from the Val d’Aosta to Sicily. Wine and cultural offerings, along with the magic of the territories under the stars, are the winning combination of Calici di Stelle, in a formula that combines good drinks with shows, design, and art.
Among the many events we would like to highlight Calici di Stelle at Tavarnelle Val di Pesa (Florence) – Astronomical observations, tasting food specialties typical of the Chianti cuisine, wines from the best local factors.
