This week you won’t want to miss the Medieval Festival of Monteriggioni di Torri at Castle of Monteriggioni (Siena), outside Florence. The Festival, entitled Weapons and Passions, takes place in the picturesque castle on the hills outside Siena. Music, entertainment, jugglers, street artists, performers, puppeteers, fakirs, medieval markets, and gastronomic areas to enjoy delicious Tuscan and medieval food. We make a special mention of the extraordinary opening of the Chiostro Grande, Santa Maria Novella, on Saturday, July 26.The cloister is located in the complex of Santa Maria Novella and was built in the fourteenth century thanks to the generosity of certain noble Florentine families. The cloister is decorated with a cycle of frescoes produced from 1570 to 1590 by over fifteen different painters of the Academy.

The Traveling Exhibition of Xu Fei at Limonaia. Sculptures in marble and bronze, which resemble cartoon characters in their display of fun and carefreeness, that represent a new canon of beauty and combines the spirit of Chinese tradition with the means of expression of contemporary sculpture. 90 Years of Excellence and Passion at Modern Art Gallery, Palazzo Pitti. Damiani exhibits 18 works awarded the Diamonds International Award, the Oscar of Jewellery. The Tree of Frogs at the Horticultural Gardens. An art installation from artist Daniele Bosica that features trees filled with 300 silicon-coloured frogs. The artist chose frogs to represent the adaptability of mankind given that these animals are amphibians (adapt to living in water and on land).

Flavia Arlotta. Woman and painter of ‘900 at Accademia delle Arti del Disegno. Flavia Arlotta was one of the most important Italian female painters of the 20th century. A modern woman and an innovative artist, she was married to Giovanni Colacicchi, also a painter as well as an intellectual and a poet. This exhibition showcases 30 paintings celebrated for the profound simplicity of her landscapes, portraits, and life-like works. Until September 6. Travels to the East at Casa Martelli. Photography exhibition by Carlo Martelli (1850–1945) purchased during his travels in the Holy Land and the Orient. The photographs come from Alexandria, Cairo Port Said, Jaffa, and hallowed sites of the Holy Land including Jerusalem and the Dead Sea. A number of photos from northern Africa are also on display. The collection of photographs perfectly portrays the exotic fascination Europe had for Africa.

Dialogue at the Gherardesca Gardens, Four Seasons. Contemporary artists in dialogue with noted works of art from the past. The works of art exhibited in the Park, the largest private garden in the city, belong to Ugo Riva, Sergio Capellini, Giovanni Balderi, and Dario Tironi, and are in “dialogue” with the classic works of art from the Frilli Gallery on display in the Park.
