The Florence Inferno website is a blog with information on events occurring in Florence, as well as an events guide on what’s happening in the city in terms of music, art, cinema, markets, and so much more. In this post, we have provided you with information on events occurring throughout September 2018.
This week we make special mention of the Festa della Rificolona, or the Paper Lantern Festival, happening on September 7, one of the Florentines’ favourite nights of the year! According to Christian tradition, the Virgin Mary was born on September 8. It was once a popular tradition, with hundreds of farmers from the countryside flocking to the city to celebrate it. They would carry lanterns to make the “pilgrimage” at night and arrive in the city in the early hours of the morning.
Even today, the tradition is still respected on September 7, and the streets come alive with colored lights, creating a magical atmosphere.
You won’t want to miss the Chianti Classico Expo at Greve in Chianti, from Thursday, September 6, until Sunday, September 9. The Expo is the ideal opportunity to learn about Chianti Classico wine in its territory of production: Chianti!
