Florence Inferno is a blog containing information on events occuring in Florence, as well as an events guide to what’s happening in the city in terms of music, art, cinema, markets, and so much more. In this post, we have provided you with information on events taking place over the next month, May 2019.
You won’t want to miss Festival Fabbrica Europa at Stazione Leopolda. This festival comprises a terrific program of theatre, dance, and performing and visual arts. Beginning at Stazione Leopolda, Fabbrica Europa’s symbolic home, the festival spreads to other locations in Florence, from the Teatro della Pergola to the Teatro Cantiere Florida.
We also make a special mention of Fiorita Commemoration at Piazza della Signoria on Tuesday, May 23, a floral homage to Savonarola, the Dominican friar who preached during the Renaissance and commanded the Florentine Republic from 1494 to 1498. He was hanged and burned at the stake in 1498 on the charge of being a heretic. This authentic tradition takes place at the circular plaque embedded in the stones of Piazza Signoria, where this historic event took place. In remembrance of this occasion, Florentines leave flowers for Savonarola, just as was done after his death.
