New Year’s Eve in Florence

December 4, 2014Leave a commentEvents in Florence

Do you know what’s the most common question asked during Christmas time? It’s: “How will you spend New Year’s Eve?” You should therefore start looking to decide how to spend this evening… after reading our suggestions!

New Year’s Eve is a magical time to celebrate the end of the current year and the dawn of the new year. You can decide to spend it in discos, restaurants, theaters, or concert halls, but you don’t have to forget two traditions: lentils – the lucky food to consume; they symbolize money and good fortune for the coming year; and red underwear – they will bring you luck in the new year!

 New year Eve in Florence

Of the many beautiful programs organized on this night, we begin with the New Year’s Eve Dinner, a tradition Italians will never give up!

For those wishing to dine in the historic city center, we suggest Restaurant Palazzo Gaddi, located in Gaddi Arrighetti Palace, a historic structure built in the XVIII Century. Here you can enjoy an excellent dinner and a panoramic view of the city thanks to its excellent location. In addition to the terrace, the palace is famous for its courtyard, called “Gaddi’s Paradise”, which is said to have inspired John Milton’s Paradise Lost.

If you wish to dine intimately but to also go out after and spend some time with others, or if you don’t feel like making plans, you can always head to the city center and enjoy the music for free. Florence offers a wide variety of music to the public. While we are presently awaiting the official program for the many concerts in different squares, last year we experienced a great program. Also, in the main squares of the city, there will be pop music, a swing and jazz concert, DJ sets, gospel music, as well as a traditional classical music concert in Piazza della Signoria.

At midnight you wont want to miss the official municipal fireworks. The very best views are offered from Ponte Vecchio or anywhere along the banks of the Arno River!

If you want to spend New Year’s Eve in the warmth, you can enjoy your evening at Teatro Auditorium Al Duomo. Golden Opera presents an extraordinary gala concert. Three acts from the most popular Italian operas, Rigoletto, La Traviata, and La Bohème, will be performed together. The luxurious venue of the theatre, located in the historic city centre, and performances from some of the best Italian musicians will make your celebration unforgettable!

If a good start for you in the new year means dancing until dawn, there is a bit of everything on the Florentine calendar; you just need to choose among the many clubs or discos. We suggest the Florence Party Tour: three historic disco clubs of the city – Full Up, Twice and Babylon – located in the central district of Santa Croce will offer you the opportunity to experience a night tour from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. at a special price and without the risk of getting bored!

Can we give you one last tip on how to properly finish the old year and better begin the new year? Enjoy one of our Florence Inferno Tours!
